General Bipin Rawat appointed India's first tri-service chief
The government on Monday night declared that General Bipin Rawat will take over as the country’s first-ever Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) or tri-Service chief. The announcement came barely a few hours before he completes his three-year-tenure as the Army chief on December 31. The government Gen Rawat will take over as the CDS “with effect from Tuesday until further orders and extension in service.”
